This plant received a Judges Commendation for the incredible result of 3 flowers and one bud on one inflorescence. This is an unusual performance, and was not to be expected from the published ancestry. This ancestry did list approximately 6% of unknown species. Several of the ancestors are very old hybrids from early in the 20th century.
Stenocoryne secunda x Lycaste Jason, AD-AOS, Grown by Doug and Terry Kennedy
This award is given to a new hybrid which represents a new direction in breeding. This cross when registered will be the first in a new intergeneric genus. The orange colour is entirely new in the Lycaste alliance and this presents an exciting new avenue for breeders to follow.
It was extremely gratifying to see 32 plants at the Centre this month, especially so because many were submitted by exhibitors that were new or that we have not seen in some time. Please keep bringing your plants, the judges are there to evaluate them and to help you do better.
